About Sean

Husband, father, teacher, community leader, businessman, State Representative

Rep. Jerguson grew up in Cherokee County in the southern end of the county.  He went to college locally where he served in leadership roles on the Student Government and as a Vice President of the Student Government Association- now Kennesaw State University with a bustling population of 24,000 students.   Sean earned his undergraduate degree in Biology and earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration. (MPA)

During this time, Sean continued his community service…as a teacher.  Rep. Jerguson taught mathematics and chemistry at the high school level for five years.   He then felt led to start a small business.  In 2000 he started Jerguson Construction, Inc. and began a career as a developer, builder, and property owner.  He was successful in building that business and it is still in operation today.

In 2008, in the midst of a falling economy, Sean felt the need to roll up his sleeves and create more jobs.  He developed and opened Hi-Caliber, a gun store and indoor shooting range.  He now employs over 13 people from our community.

Sean first ran for office in 2001 when he was elected to the Holly Springs City Council.  He served 2 years on the city council, one as the Mayor Pro Tem and acting Mayor.

In 2004, he felt a higher calling.  Sean ran, unsuccessfully, for the State House.  It was a hard fought campaign and he lost to a former State Representative whom the community knew better.  Sean’s passion and unwavering commitment to good government led him to try again just two years later.  Sean won and was sworn into office as a State Representative in January of 2007.

Since being elected to the House of Representatives in 2006 Sean has rose in seniority, stature, and leadership.  The Speaker immediately, seeing Sean’s leadership capabilities, appointed Sean to several high profile committees.  Sean has risen in leadership and is now Vice Chairman of the powerful Regulated Industries committee.

Currently, Sean is serving on the Legislative and Congressional Reapportionment committee- as the Chairman of the Congressional Reapportionment Sub-Committee.  This year reapportionment is an especially important function due to the Census just being counted.  Sean, as Chairman of Congressional Reapportionment, will oversee the Congressional districts of our D.C. Representatives.   The Speaker also chose to appoint Rep. Jerguson, as one of his two appointments, to the Georgia Hall of Fame Oversight board.

Finally, Rep. Jergusons leadership in the Georgia General Assembly led to his appointment to the Atlanta Regional Transportation Roundtable.  Sean serves on the executive committee which will craft the transportation project list which will go before the voters for consideration in the 2012 General Primary.  Rep. Jerguson along with Dekalb County Representative Mike Jacobs were the two appointees from the Atlanta Metro area.  This process is crucial to meeting the transportation needs of the Atlanta Metro area for the next 15 to 20 years.  This executive committee will be responsible for allotting over 8 billion dollars and crafting the transportation list for our region.

Sean along with his wife, Kate, and their two children, Eli and Claire, reside in Holly Springs, Ga. They are actively involved at First Baptist Church Woodstock.
